An Oregon Man Survives After Putting 12 Nails In His Head

According to a report in the current issue of the Journal of Neurosurgery, a 33 year old man from Oregon survived with 12 nails in his head. The man is suffering from mental health problem and the nails founded in his skull were a consequence of a suicide attempt.

The man come to the hospital a day later after the suicide attempt and the nails were discovered on the X-rays which revealed six nails clustered between his right eye and ear, two below his right ear and four on the left side of his head.

The doctors from Oregon Health & Science University in Portland successfully managed to remove the nails and the patient was later transferred to psychiatric care. He stayed there nearly a month until a court-ordered hospital stay expired. Then the patient left, against medical advice, the study said.

TAKE A LOOK
Romans 12:2 - (NLT)
2Don't copy the behavior and customs of this world, but let God transform you into a new person by changing the way you think. Then you will know what God wants you to do, and you will know how good and pleasing and perfect his will really is.

WHY SHOULD WE MAKE SURE THAT TODAY'S SCRIPTURE GETS IN OUR HEAD?

It's too bad that the guy in Oregon didn't understand that God would help him become a new person by changing the way he thinks.  The fact that he survived his attempt to kill himself by shooting twelve nails in his own head is a miracle.  Pray that some loving follower of Christ will help him understand God's love and purpose for his life.

Obviously, you can't become a new person by putting nails in your head.  Usually this would make you a dead person.

But in a sense, this is what God wants - that we become dead to the world and alive in His Spirit!  Let your mind absorb these study notes from Tyndale's LIFE APPLICATION STUDY BIBLE:

12:2  Paul warned Christians:  "Don't copy the behavior and customs of this world" that are usually selfish and often corrupting.  Wise Christians decide that much worldly behavior is off-limits for them.  Our refusal to conform to this world's values, however, must go even deeper than just behavior and customs; it must be firmly planted in our mind...Only when the Holy Spirit renews, reeducates, and redirects our minds are we truly transformed.

TALK ABOUT IT
Take a couple of minutes to let the Truth of God's Word, which you have just read, sink into your mind and heart.  Let God's Spirit use it to bring any necessary changes in your life.  Now confess any way that your mind and actions have been copying the world's way of thinking.  Receive God's forgiveness through what Christ did on the cross for you.  Thank God for using His Word to change the way you think which is part of becoming more and more like Jesus.
