HOW LAZY ARE YOU?
May 9, 2006
Check out a gadget made for people who take laziness to the extreme.
THINK ABOUT IT

ICE-CREAM TURNER

We can all agree that childhood was an icky and laborious affair whose joyful tasks such as turning an ice-cream cone as you lick it are best automated if not done away with entirely.

TAKE A LOOK
Proverbs 12:27 - (NLT)
27Lazy people don't even cook the game they catch, but the diligent make use of everything they find.

WHAT DOES TODAY'S PROVERB TEACH US ABOUT STEWARDSHIP?

Tyndale's LIFE APPLICATION STUDY BIBLE notes provide a great summary:

12:27  The diligent make wise use of their possessions and resources; the lazy waste them.  Waste has become a way of life for many who live in a land of plenty.  Waste is poor stewardship.  Make good use of everything God has given you, and prize it.

In today's automated world, there's a fine line between efficient time management and laziness. The "ice-cream turner" gadget sort of crosses the line don't you think?  But then again, I hate it when I strain my wrist and tongue when attempting to lick the other side of my chocolate cone.

Since Proverbs 12:27 says, "lazy peole don't even cook the game they catch," I'm pretty sure that an "ice-cream turner" illustrates laziness.

Let's be honest.  What illustrates laziness in our lives?  Our waste of food?  Our use of time?  Our lack of discipline?  Our poor communication?  Our desire to be served rather than serve?  Our time with God?  Our _____________?

There's no gadget to help us with laziness.  But God will.

TALK ABOUT IT
Thank God, your loving Father, for providing your needs.  Ask Him to help you use the resources He gives you in a way that honors Him.  Confess the ways you struggle with being lazy.  Ask Jesus to help you practice good stewardship with everything in your life.
TRY IT
  • Pray regularly for Jesus to help you make good use of what He provides in your life.
  • Make a written list of the lazy "issues" in your life.  Keep it available to review regularly as you invite Jesus to help you make any necessary changes.
  • (You knew this next one was coming) The next time you enjoy an ice-cream cone, go ahead and strain your wrist and tongue.  It will remind you to not be lazy!
