MISSION POSSIBLE!
May 19, 2006
Christ didn't give us the option of choosing to accept His mission and His message will not self-destruct in 5 seconds!
THINK ABOUT IT

TAKE A LOOK
Matthew 28:18-20 - (NLT)
18Jesus came and told his disciples, "I have been given complete authority in heaven and on earth. 19Therefore, go and make disciples of all the nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and the Son and the Holy Spirit. 20Teach these new disciples to obey all the commands I have given you. And be sure of this: I am with you always, even to the end of the age."

WHY IS JESUS' MISSION FOR US NOT IMPOSSIBLE?

Tyndale's LIFE APPLICATION STUDY BIBLE notes help us understand:

28:18-20  When someone is dying or leaving us, his or her last words are very important.  Jesus left the disciples with these last words of instruction:  They were under his authority; they were to make more disciples; they were to baptize and teach these new disciples to obey Christ; Christ would be with them always...

We are to go - whether it is next door or to another country - and make disciples.  It is not an option but a command to all who call Jesus "Lord."  We are not all evangelists in the formal sense, but we have all received gifts that we can use to help fulfill the great commission.  As we obey, we have comfort in the knowledge that Jesus is always with us.

I saw MI 3 this week and really enjoyed it.  Media experts say that this will be the most watched movie this summer by people under the age of 25.

This got me wondering....how many followers of Christ, under the age of 25, will watch for God's opportunity to get involved in Christ's mission this summer?

Ethan Hunt (IMF agent) went on a mission to save the life of someone he loved.  Will we do the same?

TALK ABOUT IT

Praise God for His saving grace and amazing plan to involve us in the spreading of His gospel around the world.  If you have ignored Christ's command to do His mission, confess this right now and tell Jesus that you will rely on His Spirit's power to GO into the world, one person at a time.

TRY IT
  • Read Christ's "mission" for us once a week for the entire summer.
  • Ask God to show you the identity of one person you already know who needs Christ in his/her life.  Pray every day for this person and the opportunity to share God's Story and your story with him/her.
  • Pray for Tom Cruise to leave the cult of Scientology and turn to Christ for salvation.
  • Use this Devo as a resource in your youth group or small group.
